SOCIAL SCENE: Day at the races

Sandy Lane Gold Cup Day is now not only the biggest day in horse racing in the Caribbean, it has also evolved as a premier event on the social calendar for local A listers and repeat visitors as well.

“I’ll be seeing you at the Gold Cup” has become a familiar part of the exchange between friends, as the big race day approaches, and the thousands, who turn out at the Garrison year after year, are evidence of a carry through on that promise.

And last Saturday, at the big event, every Garrison stand was filled to capacity and overflowing, while around the perimeter of the Garrison merriment was being made under corporate tents, long after the races ended.

The scene was no different in the privately-owned boxes. (GC)
