Akil Small is using technology to redefine the poultry industry.

He wants to prove that small-scale farms could be just as sophisticated as large enterprises, and that young people could apply and incorporate scientific knowledge in their agro-businesses.

The 28-year-old paramedic – the son of veteran calypsonian Ras Iley – has installed an automated poultry nipple waterer in his 50 x 25-foot coop.

He is now saving towards an automated chicken feeder to control with his phone by means of WiFi. (SB)
