Sargassum hits the South

It’s back. And with a vengeance too.

Sargassum seaweed has hit the Barbados south coast again, crippling some tourism service players, and bringing with it that foul stench and fish-killing ability.

Since late last Thursday, the golden-brown weed which makes its way from the Atlantic Ocean, has invaded Accra Beach in Christ church, resulting in empty beach chairs and angry business persons telling tales of its arrival.

Over the weekend, some visitors waded through the thick weed just to make it into the sea, but most stayed away. (BA)
