The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) has recorded 5 125 in undelivered land tax bills and other mail from the Post Office, which were mailed since September last year.

Manager, Communications and PR, with the BRA, Carolyn Williams-Gayle, said the returned bills were due to incorrect addresses for the land and property owners. She explained that in over 1 000 cases, the addressees were labelled as deceased, and, in addition, there were 513 bills returned from overseas addresses which were uncollected.

Williams-Gayle again urged land and property owners who did not receive their bills last year to contact the Authority.

“Taxpayers who have not received their land tax bills should contact our Customer Service Department to ensure that the information we have is current. Additionally, we have posted a listing of the names and last known addresses for the returned bills on our website www.bra.gov.bb for reference,” she stated.

She reminded persons to keep their information with the BRA up-to-date so that they could receive their bills, any refunds or correspondence when issued.

The Communications and PR Manager also indicated that land tax bills for the 2017-18 period not paid before the March 31, 2018, deadline would incur penalties and interest after that date.

“Failure to pay by the end of this month will result in a penalty of five per cent of the principal being charged and a further fine of one per cent every month on the principal and penalty. So, persons will end up having to pay extra.

“With the exception of The Pine, payments can be made at all of our branches. However, I encourage everyone to skip the lines at our branches and go online to pay via the eZ-Pay option,” she advised. (BGIS)
