Road relief coming as USD$25M project to start soon

Relief is on the way road users shunning potholes daily.

This promised has been made by project manager in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Dave Scantlebury who said from May a multi-million dollar road rehabilitation project will be undertaken across the island.

Scnatlebury’s comments following a town hall meeting at Alexandra School, Speightsown , St Peter on Tuesday night. The Inter-American Development Bank-funded US $25 million road rehabilitation project is to improve various sectors of the country, but also assist drivers in reducing wear and tear on their vehicles.

The roads selected for repair will be the entire Charles Duncan O’Neal highway from Checker Hall to Greenland, the ABC Highway from the Frank Worrell Roundabout to West Road and the westbound lanes of the ABC Highway from the Norman Niles and the Clyde Walcott Roundaboust.

“The main objective of the operation is to improve the quality of road infrastructure and its connectivity, in order to inter alia enhance Barbados tourism competiveness and growth,” Scantlebury said.

He noted the loan and project would also seek to strengthen the ministry’s institutional functions with training and other plans.(AD)
