Student rewarded for temperament

For her ability to resist provocation, 15-year-old student Ayra Newton was showered with a number of gifts yesterday.

Newton was the teen seen in a viral posting this week being taunted by another student at a bus pole in Six Roads, St Philip, but maintaining her cool and refusing to respond to what viewers said was bullying.

As a reward during the Princess Margaret Secondary School’s end of term concert in the hall, she received bouquets and a watch, among other things, for not retaliating when Christ Church Foundation student Sherida Carrington approached her.

Deputy principal of the Six Roads, St Philip institution, Robin Douglas, said after the video went viral, the school received a number of calls from a number of people here and overseas as well as businesses and associations commending Newton’s temperament. The gifts were from one of those callers.

The other student is on suspension from school. (SB)
