The cleric and congregation of St Peter’s Parish Church kicked off the start of Holy Week yesterday with a Palm Sunday procession through the Speightstown community.

Led by priest in-charge Canon Peter Haynes, the large group, comprising mostly members of the choir, Sunday School, Men’s Fellowship and Mother’s Union.

Raising songs such as Onward Christian Soldiers, they travelled through the streets with palm branches and crosses made of palms, in remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey many years ago in a build-up to the Crucifixion.

On their return to the church, Haynes did the traditional “Knock On The Door” before the congregation entered to continue their morning service. (RL)
