Many Barbadians living overseas are still investing in the country’s development.
This was clear on Wednesday when the Barbados Cultural Organisation in London donated over $16 000 to the Nature Fun Ranch, which is led by director Corey Lane.
Chairman of the cultural organisation, Cedric Lynch, who made the donation at The Nation in Fontabelle, said they currently had 20 members who in the past had given back to other social initiatives such as the Breakfast Programme at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).
He said when he heard about the work the fun ranch did and its financial difficulties, they had to help.
“We heard of Corey’s plight and what he’s trying to do with the children, and we wanted to do what we could to try to keep the young people out of harm’s way if we can.
“So I believe in what they are doing and we are trying to spread the love around,” he said.
Grateful
Lane, who was grateful for the donation, said it came at a great time.
“Especially coming off of a very difficult year, where we had some mix-ups within the media with the support we got, which was really in kind and weren’t monetary donations. We were already in a position where we were struggling; so that put us in an even more difficult position. So this donation really puts us in a position that we can get going again,” Lane said.
The Fun Ranch is located on a ten-acre area in St Andrew and seeks to rehabilitate at risk youth through agricultural, equestrian and character building activities. (TG)
