Whitehall Braves defeated United Stars Alliance 3-2 from the penalty spot to become champions of the Scotiabank National Youth Cup’s Under-9 Tier 2 Football competition at Banks Breweries, last Saturday.
During regular time they got the ball rolling when Tariq Barker, who later captured the Best Defender Award, got away with a shot in the 12th minute.
That celebration; however, was short-lived after Amari Goddard made a strike between the sticks to tie the knot in the 14th minute.
However, they remained locked with neither team succeeding at separating themselves from the other which resulted in them using a penalty shootout as the decider.
Penalty shootout
Kickstart Hotshots and King’s Park Rangers also had to be separated by a penalty shootout after they went down to the wire scoring two goals each in regular time in the Under-9 Tier 1 competition.
Kickstarts Most Valuable Player Harry Smith scored in the third minute, but the scores were quickly evened when Tariq Greenidge who was named Best Defender of the competition put the Rangers on the board in the sixth minute.
Soon after Beau Washington contributed with a lovely strike into the net to pull away 2-1.
But there was no holding off the Rangers who tied the knot once more with a goal from Obataiye Sealy in the 18th minute.
Nevertheless, the Kickstarts proved better when they won the shootout 2-1.
