Irked by BARP move

A change by the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) committee has upset some of its members.

Yesterday many of them found out through a Facebook post that (BARP) is changing the membership from the three-year or five-year option to only one-year memberships effective April 1.

The posting seem to have caught some people off guard and as some responded in the comments section under the post asking for an explanation. Others queried why members were not consulted and said they would not be renewing their membership when it expires.

President of BARP, Ed Bushell, said the organisation did not consult the membership before making changes to rates, similarly when they moved from life membership, there was no notification or consultation.

He said people’s main concern was that they wanted to avoid the yearly hassle of renewing, when they could pay for extended periods.

To mitigate that, Bushell said BARP had put things in place such as partnering with the Barbados Postal Service and it was also in discussion with pay services similar to Sure Pay to offer that service soon. (LK)
