Barbados’ top junior golfers dominated various divisions at the just concluded Caribbean Open Junior Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.

While the boys held three of the top four spots in the 17 and Under division, two girls predictably emerged champions among younger age-groups in the three-day tournament at the St Andrews Club at Moka.

National players Emily Odwin and Eryn Blakeley took gold medals in their categories as Odwin won the Girls’ 14-15 years division with a 54-hole score of 236, and Blakeley won the 11-13 division with a gross 245.

The Boys’ 16-17 category was again fiercely competitive, where Jonathan Jean-Noel of Guadeloupe was forced to dig deep to stave off three Barbadian contenders before emerging champion.

The Frenchman shot a 54-hole gross 229 and was chased by Barbadians Iz Hustler, who was second with a gross 233, Xzavier Wiggins (236) and Oaziah Layne (252).

Nathan Chee-a-Tow (14-15) and Quinton Heljenik (13 and under) slotted mid-table in their divisions.

The three-day tournament, which is backed by the Caribbean Golf Association (CGA), attracted 70 players from six territories, including Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia.

The next major tournament for regional juniors is expected to be the CGA Caribbean Junior Championships, to be played in Jamaica in July. (PR/EZS)
