Efforts are underway to develop the coconut industry in Barbados, and to this end the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, will be hosting training sessions targeting coconut vendors.

The sessions will be held on Wednesday, April 18, and Monday April 23, in the conference room at the Ministry’s Graeme Hall, Christ Church offices, beginning at 9 a.m.

Among the topics to be covered are the importance of cleaning and sanitising of equipment; health service regulations pertaining to the vending of coconuts; ensuring high quality coconut water and managing coconut waste.

There will also be presentations on small business development and financing options for their businesses.

The main objective of these sessions is to sensitise coconut vendors on the best practices required to ensure that they operate at the highest standards. (BGIS)
