Today’s meeting to select a new bishop of the Anglican church has adjourned for the evening without a Chief Shepherd. Cannon Wayne Isaac, diocesan administrator, emerged from today’s meeting just after 11 p.m. confirming that a decision has not been reached.

In seven days another meeting will be called, where the Elective Synod will make another attempt to select the next bishop of Barbados.

The Elective completed the fourth vote earlier tonight. The latest ballot resulted in a slight increase in votes for Reverend John Rogers from the Clergy, but was still not enough to satisfy the two-thirds majority he needs. The Laity have held firm in their support for Rogers with their two-thirds in his favour.

The second candidate in the running is Reverend Dr. Jeffery Gibson.

The successful candidate must gain a two-thirds majority vote from both houses of the Elective Synod. (GC)
