LeRoss Leandre Burnett has been captured in what police say was a violent struggle in which he and two police officers were injured.

The 29-year-old of Longford Place, Waterford Housing Area, St Michael was the subject of a police wanted bulletin on April 16 and he surprised many when he took to the Nation’s Facebook page to proclaim his innocence.

Police say they received a report after 9 o’clock last night that Burnett was spotted in the area of 1st Avenue Homestead Drive, Frere Pilgrim, Christ Church.

“On arrival the police patrol saw a dreadlocked man crouching behind a motor van which was parked inside the garage of a residence and Leross Burnett was hiding on the ground between the said vehicle and the garage wall.

“Both men were approached by the police and Burnett immediately tried to escape. He was restrained. He struggled violently with the police for some time until he was eventually subdued prior to the arrival of additional police personnel,” police public relations officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss said.

Burnett was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention.

The dreadlocked man fled on foot during this altercation and a motor vehicle at the scene was taken into police custody.

Anyone with knowledge as to the whereabouts of the dreadlocked man should contact the District ‘B’ Police station at 437-4311 or police emergency at telephone number 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477), or the nearest police station.

The public is reminded that it is a serious offence to harbour or assist wanted persons; any person caught committing this offence can be prosecuted.

The Royal Barbados Police Force expressed gratitude to those members of the public who called and gave the information which led to the immediate apprehension of Burnett. (PR/NB)
