The Environmental Health Department of the Ministry of Health has identified Sargassum seaweed as the cause of discoloured water along the south coast.
A video circulating on social media today showed the discoloured water at St Lawrence Bay and some members of the public surmised that it was sewage water affecting the coastline.
According to Principal Environment Health Officer at the Randal Phillips Polyclinic at Oistins, John Watts, his officers have investigated the matter and have confirmed that the discoloration is as a result of the influx of seaweed.
Sargassum seaweed is currently impacting the north, east and south coasts of the island. (BGIS)
