Forde: Leave Mia alone

Long-serving St Thomas representative Cynthia Forde last night delivered a tongue lashing for the Democratic Labour Party’s constant targeting of Mia Mottley.

Speaking at a meeting at Redman Village, St Thomas, Forde said the incumbent administration had crossed the line with their attacks of the Barbados Labour Party leader during the campaign for the May 24 general election.

“I have worked with Mia Mottley for a very long time. I have worked with her seven consecutive years now and she can work you to the bone. But I can promise you she is a kind and caring human being,” Forde said.

Forde admitted that Mottley had been born into a privileged family, but said that she had been brought up the right way, and the result of her upbringing had sculpted the personality Barbadians had now come to know.

“Mia always said we must reward our teachers. She has always cared about poor people. She has always wanted to give back. That is the Mia Mottley I know. I want the Dems to leave Mia Mottley alone,” a pumped-up Forde said moments after being introduced to the crowd by her 14-year-old grandson Nathan, to loud applause.

Forde said the DLP should be ashamed of its treatment of Mottley during its recent campaign launch at the National Stadium.

“The Democratic Labour Party has to understand and realise that they too have women in the party. There are women in the DLP who should cry shame on the treatment of women,” Forde said. (BA)
