Visitor on drug charges

A Jamaican man is expected to appear in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court today on drug charges.

Members of the Drug Squad arrested 47-year-old Patrick Junior Gray of Leith Hall District, St Thomas, Jamaica May 11 and formally charged him for offences allegedly committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on May 11. 

According to police, Gray arrived on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica around 9:30 p.m. and was interviewed by Drug Squad personnel after clearing Immigration.

“As a result of this interview suspicion was aroused that he was in possession of a controlled drug and he was arrested on suspicion.

“He was later taken to Oistins Police Station where a further interview was carried out and he admitted to ingesting a quantity of suspected cannabis, a controlled drug.

He was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he consented to a medical examination by a doctor. He was detained and he later passed out a total of 76 packages,” police said in a release.

The substance weighed one kilogramme and had an estimated value of $8 000.

Gray faces charges of unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation. (PR/NB)
