For the past year, Jus D has been singing on cloud nine because people around the world have got more familiar with the singer/songwriter and producer and his sound.
In addition to the success of 9 (Na Na Ni) he can also boast that he has written for artistes including St Marteen’s two-time soca champion Kenyo Baly, Jamaican artiste Shaggy, Alison Hinds, Hypasounds and Machel Montano. Earlier this year he also received a production credit on Jamaica’s I-Octane’s Love And Life album which debuted in the top three on the Billboard
As a result, the 30-year-old, who’s otherwise known as Antonio Johnson,
has received more requests from other artistes who are fans of his songwriting abilities.
“I got to visit some places that I had never been before and meet a whole set of people, and it was breathtaking to hear people in a whole different country actually singing your song word for word and knowing who you are,” he told Weekend Buzz recently.
“I even started getting a lot more attention from other artistes as well.
I got some artistes hitting me up from places that I didn’t even know about like Statia [Sint Eustatius],” the Jlo singer added.
When asked if he planned to try his hand at any of the competitions this year, the Jlo singer said though he would never completely rule it out, it was not his focus.
“There are loads of other artistes releasing music during Crop Over
and they are all fighting for that spot in the people’s hearts. So automatically when you drop a tune, it’s competition.
“So competing is something I think I could try if the opportunity presents itself, but I don’t really focus on it because this is a full-time thing for me,
so I have to think past just that one competition,” he added.
Thus far for the season he also has a writing credit on Fada Fox’s Rock Dat Body and hinted at collaborations with King Bubba, and producer Dwaingerous and reigning Calypso Monarch Ian Webster.
However his main focus now is aiming high with his new business venture Fuzed. For the formation of the label, which was officially launched in January, he teamed up with his manager Paul Parris, and Dev Cutter.
Under the label they have already released the tracks; Only Thing She Know and Hole by Jus D along with Party Heaven by Busy Signal. (TG)
