One of the rejected political parties is offering to give the Mia Mottley Administration a helping hand.
Following the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) landslide victory in Thursday’s General Election, when it swept all 30 constituencies, leader of Solutions Barbados, Grenville Phillips II, is pledging non-partisan support to the BLP.
Solutions Barbados was one of the alternative parties that emerged for the election and its 28 candidates, who are all business professionals, amassed 4 000 votes.
In a release Friday, Phillips, an engineer, congratulated the BLP on its victory, acknowledging that Barbadians clearly rejected the Freundel Stuart-led Democratic Labour Party Government.
“This BLP administration will face unprecedented economic challenges over this new five-year term. While we were offering the only non-austerity solution and the BLP an austerity-based one, this choice appeared less important to voters than ensuring that the DLP were voted out. However, once the jubilation has ended, all of us must face the stark reality that we are actually on the brink of economic ruin,” he said.
He urged everyone, including the supporters of all political parties, to give of their best and to be more efficient, productive, and innovative.
“Since most elected BLP candidates are new, they will inevitably make mistakes, and we should extend grace to them as they learn. Since we all live here, it is in all of our interests to see that Barbados’ economy does not fail.
“The BLP administration can be assured that Solutions Barbados will offer the BLP administration our best unsolicited advice, something that I have been doing with all political administrations for the past two decades. . . ,” Phillips said. (TG)
