The General Conference of The Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies has elected Bishop Sonny Williams of St Vincent and the Grenadines as General Presiding Bishop of PAWI.
The election took place on Wednesday in Tobago.
Williams is the first non-Trinidadian to hold the post.
Bishop Williams, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and a Masters in Counselling, has served as Pastor of the Glad Tidings Tabernacle in Gomea, St.Vincent since 1999 and Presiding Bishop of St Vincent and the Grenadines since 2002.
Bishop Dr Pat Glasgow, who has served as General Bishop of PAWI for the past 12 years, declined nomination for the post.
The conference also elected Bishop Dr Raymond Boca of Trinidad as Assistant General Presiding Bishop.
Boca has been pastor of Arouca Revival Tabernacle in Trinidad since 1992 and served as Presiding Bishop of the North East Trinidad District from 2007 to 2017.
Bishop Ophneil Forde, who served as Assistant General Presiding Bishop for the past 12 years, declined nomination to the post.
Bishop Nolan Warner of Trinidad was returned to office as general administrator by an overwhelming majority.
All terms of office commence on September 1, 2018. (PR)
