The First Citizens Crop Over Xplosion which was planned for tomorrow at King George V Park has been postponed.

The National Cultural  Foundation said the official start of the festival was delayed because there was not enough time new Minister of Culture John King to be briefed on plans for the season.

Below is the full text of the statement issued this evening.

The Honourable John King, Minister of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports was sworn into office on Sunday, May 27, 2018.

On assuming his portfolio, which includes a responsibility for the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) and by extension the Barbados Crop Over Festival, it is customary for the Minister to be fully briefed on all plans and preparations prior to the start of the season.

However, the proximity of his assumption of office to the start of the Festival did not afford him the opportunity to meet with the Management of the NCF for an extensive brief before the upcoming launch.

Regrettably, this has necessitated the postponement of this weekend’s scheduled events to officially open the Barbados Crop Over Festival.

We will advise on the details of the new schedule for the launch.

The National Cultural Foundation expresses its sincere apologies to the Crop Over sponsors, service providers, vendors and all other stakeholders affected by this unavoidable postponement. (PR)
