Best earns junior Pan Am silver medal

Caribbean squash queen Meagan Best earned Barbados’ first ever silver medal in the singles’ competition of the Pan Am Junior Squash Championships in Brazil.

Best was stretched to the fullest on the third day of play when she advanced to the finals after defeating Claire Aube of the United States 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 in the semi-finals.

Four hours later, she clashed with Lujan Palacios of Paraguay in the final which proved to be a tough battle.

Best’s attempts to dominate the match proved unsuccessful and she lost a keenly contested five-setter to Palacious 1-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11.

Earlier, Best and Amanda Haywood advanced to the girls’ doubles finals after crushing the No.1 seeded team Colombia 11-9, 11-6 before defeating Ecuador 11-3, 9-11, 11-9.

The boys’ doubles team of Khamal Cumberbatch and Josiah Griffith did not advance to the semi-finals after being stopped by Colombia 5-11, 8-11. (EZS/PR)
