High wind and small craft warnings were issued for Barbados at 5 p.m. today.
The Barbados Meteorological Services said a strengthening Atlantic high pressure system is expected to generate strong surface to low-level winds across Barbados and the Lesser Antilles starting tonight and continuing over the next two to three days.
During this time, wind-speeds of 25 to 33 knots (47 to 61 km/h) with higher gusts are anticipated.
Thus, a High Wind Warning will be in effect for Barbados from 6 a.m. on Saturday until 6 p.m. on Monday.
Winds of this magnitude can cause loose objects to become airborne and may topple over garbage cans, outdoor furniture, jumping tents and construction material. Falling tree branches can also pose a threat.
Residents are urged to be vigilant and secure all loose objects in order to mitigate the effects of the above-mentioned impacts.
A small craft warning will also be in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.
This means that seas equal to or greater than three metres (10ft) and/or mean wind-speeds of 25 to 33 knots ( 47 to 61km/h) will affect the marine area.
