Along with regular sessions at Beyond Limits Fitness Center and a thorough initial health assessment by Lennox Prescod of Pharma Wellness Inc., the Challengers have been improving their diet and nutrition with help from professional nutritionist, Esther Selman of the Caribbean Institute of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Over the past week the BH-20 Challengers, participated in the two cooking demos sponsored by Challenge sponsor, Courts and hosted by Esther Selman.

In the first session which took place at Courts, Sheraton Mall on June 14, they learnt to make quick and easy shakes and snacks using the popular Nutribullet and Oster Grill, while the second session was held at Courts, Sky Mall on June 24 featured a healthy menu of scrambled tofu with pita bread and a side of grilled plantain cooked on the Oster Grill.

Challengers also learnt how to make a delicious banana mango sorbet using the versatile Nutribullet.

In addition to the tutorials on how to cook healthily, Ms Selman took the challengers on an interactive supermarket tour at Massy Warrens, where they learnt how to read food labels and choose foods that best support their fitness and nutritional goals.

During this time, she shared how BH-20 challengers could enhance their nutritional plan using the wide range of Glucerna meal replacement shakes as well as PowerBar products, which are packed full of simple and powerful ingredients that replenish muscles and build energy.

Challengers were also reminded about the importance of drinking lots of water during the day and were delighted by the options available to them from BH-20 Sponsor SMJ beverages, distributors of Viva sparkling fruit flavoured water, which offers the health conscious, a natural tasting, zero calorie, thirst quenching beverage, as well as the affordable Oasis Premium Water. Contestants also browsed the pharmaceutical section to view the vast range of FUTURO braces and support exercise wear.

“We are what we eat. We have to manage our health by eating well. Exercise is a component of a health but people must realise the damage they do to themselves when then consistently make poor nutritional choices, said Selman.” When you make smart food choices you avoid empty calories and foods with no nutritional value. The goal is not to starve or avoid food groups but to have balance and this is informed by reading food labels.”

In the coming weeks, participants will meet with Pharma Wellness International Inc. for their mid-point biometric health assessment and participate in a number of fitness activities including the HOTT summer burn, a custom hike and boot camp.
