The Barbados Defence Force will formally name and bring into service a new 958Y inshore vessel on Friday, July 20, at the Barbados Coast Guard’s HMBS Pelican.

The vessel, to be named Endurance, is part of the military equipment package donated by the People’s Republic of China.

It will join three others in the inshore patrol class fleet of vessels – Endeavour, Enterprise and Excellence – and will boost the Barbados Coast Guard’s capacity to conduct maritime law enforcement operations; provide safety at sea; counter maritime security threats; and protect the island’s blue economy and offshore interests.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley; Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey; and Permanent Secretary, Defence and Security, Timothy Maynard, will be in attendance during the formal ceremony. (BDF/BGIS)
