Barbados joined the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the celebration of that country’s 207th anniversary of independence and several of the newly elected parliamentarians were there.

The event, hosted at the Dalkeith headquarters of the National Union of Public Workers was attended by Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Sandra Husbands, who delivered remarks on Barbados’ behalf; Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn; Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations Colin Jordan; Minister of Youth and Community Empowerment, Adrian Forde; and Minister of Environment and National Beautification pan Africanist Trevor Prescod.

New chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Alvaro Sanchez, hailed what was termed a new beginning in relations with Barbados and Venezuela, following a recent meeting between Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Venezuela’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Caribbean Affairs Raul Licausi.

Guests were treated to a performance by Grupo de Cuatro Del IVCC representing the Venezuelan Institute forCultural Co-operation. (GC)
