City earns Premier League promotion

The old boys club is back in business.

City United are heading back to Premier League basketball, as Adrian Stewart scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half of Monday’s series-clinching 92-71 Game 3 victory over Spartans in the First Division finals at the Wildey Gym.

It was the fitting fairytale ending to a storybook season for the former top flight club, who had its Premier League dreams dashed just last year on this same finals stage.

And the script threatened to be the same this year too, as City fell in a 1-0 series deficit before cutting it close in Game 2 for a series-tying win.

But they left nothing to chance this time, jumping out to an early 29-16 lead before Stewart took over in the second half.

“It feels wonderful. I feel good for the men that left their teams to come and help me see my goal for the city and it was a wonderful feeling to get back to the finals two years in a row and come out on top this time,” said former national centre and player-coach Sydney “Bouncer” Rowe. (JM)
