A NEW DESIGNER has joined the line-up to win the new car at stake in this year’s Crop Over competition.

The car, a Kia, and $7 500 in cash, are being offered by the National Cultural Foundation and title sponsor Consolidated Finance for the Robert Weekes Award, popularly known as the Best Festival Designer.

Those eligible are Kevin Small of Fifth Element, Mackie Holder of Wednesday 2000, Gwyneth Squires of the Gwyneth Squires Band, Betty West and newcomer Eunoia, led by Jason Thompson, which also has a Foreday Morning band.

The rules state that the prize for the Best Festival Designer will be judged over both Junior Kadooment and Republic Bank Grand Kadooment, which means only those designers with bands in both competitions will be eligible for the award.

Last year, the added bonus of a car was announced, and Consolidated Finance said it was happy to be on board for another year.

“Last year we came on board to the memory of Renee Ratcliffe. Kiddies Kadooment was her passion. So this year we are committed to it again and we are glad to be the major sponsor for this year,” said Frances Parravicino, vice president, credit.

Squires has over 25 years and Holder more than 23 years in festival design. Returning is West who didn’t bring a junior band last year because of financial issues. She is celebrating 27 years in masquerade. (NS)
