Mayers’ future in doubt

Share post:

Questions are being raised about attorney at law Guyson Mayers’ future as chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

This comes less than 24 hours after the former police officer secured 186 votes to beat out challenger Damien Griffith’s 158 to become the new general secretary of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) at its annual general conference.

Mayers took over from the long-standing George Pilgrim, who in the May 24 General Election was defeated in the St John constituency, which was considered a safe seat for the party.

While the Service Commission’s (Police Service) Regulations, 1964 CAP.34 does not speak to whether the chairman of that entity can concurrently serve as an executive member of a major political party, a senior legal professional has advised against holding both positions. (SDB Media)
