Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Chinese ambassador Yan Xiusheng toasted the friendship between the two countries at a reception marking the 69th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The gala event at Hilton Barbados showcased the talent of Chinese children in Barbados, and the growing Barbadian interest in Mandarin, with the performance of a song in Mandarin by the Barbadian primary school students, while Chinese primary school students sang a Barbadian classic along with its writer, music icon Emile Straker, who also accompanied them on guitar.

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason attended the reception, as well of some members of the diplomatic corps, government ministers and prominent members of the local business community. The event also attracted representatives from Chinese companies operating here, the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus, the Chinese medical team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and members of the Chinese Association.
