Cawmere KO v’ball champs Chargers

Chargers will not be defending their Goddard Enterprises Limited senior volleyball knockouts crown in this year’s finals.

On Sunday night the 2017 champions Chargers were eliminated at the semi-finals stage by last year’s league kings Cawmere 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18 at the Wildey Gymnasium. With talisman Dale Addison out of the island, only Ashan Jordan showed any consistent fight for Chargers.

Robert Andrews returned from injury for Cawmere as he, fellow Jamaican Mark Lewis, Barbados captain Shawn Simpson and Eadium Cobham pounded the hapless Chargers. With Andrews, Lewis and Simpson destroying Chargers from the wings, the cocky Cobham enjoyed a tremendous time blasting some crackers through the centre court.

National setter Alain London tried to ignite his other spikers, but without the motivation from Addison they all seemed like soda left uncovered too long – flat.  (KB)
