Chairman of the Barbados Christian Council, Canon Noel Burke, is urging parents with troubled children to reach out to the church for assistance.
Speaking against a background of the current spate of gun violence across the island, the Anglican priest said churches were “open morning, noon and night and persons must avail themselves of the opportunities to speak to pastors, since many churches had people trained to deal with children, young people and their issues”.
Over the last week, there have been a number of incidents involving the use of guns, with one resulting in death. Observing that young people were often the perpetrators of violent crime, Burke urged parents to be aware of what was happening with their children.
“From early, parents have to learn to supervise what their children are doing, what their friends and what their linkages are,” Burke said. (GC)
