One of Barbados’ leading tourism companies is taking special steps to ensure its operations are not enabling human trafficking.

Elegant Hotels Group, which owns and operates seven hotels and a restaurant, said it “has a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery and has and continues to implement measures to mitigate the risk within our business and supply chain”.

In a statement approved by the company’s board of directors on September 20, Elegant Hotels chief executive officer and director Sunil Chatrani said “in the coming months” the group intended to take its efforts further.

“Elegant Hotels intends to take the following additional proactive steps to safeguard against the possible threats of modern day slavery: expending due diligence on subcontractors and suppliers [and] modern day slavery training across the group,” he said. (SC)
