As job cuts loom in the public service and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley prepares to address the nation Sunday evening, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) will hold two critical meetings on Monday.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall was tight-lipped about their concerns, but revealed they would meet with officials from the Ministry of the Civil Service tomorrow morning and general membership in the evening.
Yesterday in a media release, the NUPW said while it has been meeting with the Social Partnership to discuss the retrenchment of public officers, it remained “concerned about the lack of details regarding this very sensitive issue” and were insisting “a process must be followed”.
The NUPW revealed it had written the Ministry of the Civil Service to “properly negotiate all matters relating to proposed retrenchment”. (SAT)
