SOCIAL SCENE: Warm welcome for New Zealand High Commissioner

New Zealand’s new High Commissioner to Barbados Anton Ojala was warmly welcomed by government representatives, fellow diplomats and other prominent society figures at a reception in their honour.

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason headed the guest list which included Dame Maisie Barker-Welch and Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force Colonel Glyne Grannum.

Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sandra Husbands spoke about the cordial relationship between the two countries and the bilateral interests, especially in the fields of agriculture and ocean fisheries.

Speaking at the event at Sweetfield Manor, Brittons Hill, Ojala who replaced the popular Jan Henderson, said: “I believe that relations between Barbados and New Zealand are on the path towards deeper engagement and this gives much hope for the future of our relationship.” (GC)
