As the Transport Board continues to struggle to meet the needs of the travelling public, operators of public service vehicles (PSVs) are proposing a solution to the problem.
Chairman of the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT), Roy Raphael, said not only would a special private service assist with the transportation of students, but would also reduce the level of violence on the buses.
“What we propose is that Government should introduce a private school bus system which would allow for a new licence plate and operated between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., and then from 2 p.m. until 5,” he told THE NATION.
“And one of the regulations is that it would be illegal for any child to be standing in a school bus because the driver should be able to see all of the seats. That is where the problem lies – if a fight breaks out, the driver might not know,” Raphael added. (TG)
