Government is moving to address the perennial problem of flooding around the island.
Making the announcement on Friday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley said she was making this a priority, and acknowleged that the problem, which existed for more than 30 years, could not be resolved overnight.
Areas such as Kingsland in Christ Church and Murphy Pasture in The City of Bridgetown were deluged by heavy rains during last month’s passing of Tropical Storm Kirk.
The Prime Minister signalled the intention of the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) to write major landowners and plantation owners about their responsibility in assisting with alleviating the problem of flooding, saying it was an issue that had continued for too long and had to be addressed urgently. She urged property owners to join Government in the exercise.(GC)
