Barbadians Shawn Simpson and Jada Smith-Padmore were crowned as the new champions when the finals of the Barbados Independence Invitational Games COB Squash Open were contested on Sunday at the Barbados Squash Club, Marine Gardens.

No. 1 seed Simpson defeated Vincentian Jules Snaggs in the men’s final, while Smith-Padmore prevailed over Summairaa Suleman in an all-Barbadian women’s final that went the full distance.

While Simpson’s powerful style of play was maintained throughout the match, Snaggs’ graceful, yet powerful at times play, allowed him to stay close to his opponent in the first game while losing 8-11.

The second game saw a change in tactics from Snaggs, as he slowed the pace and focused on accuracy and placement. The scores were locked at 10-10 before Simpson caught on. Snaggs, in a rush to win the game, made errors which Simpson capitalised on to surge ahead 2-0. (EZS/PR)
