Athletics’ governing body is about to start a race for financial assistance to help Barbados get its National Stadium back on track.

Speaking at the opening of the Athletics Association of Barbados’ (AAB) new headquarters at Harbour Road, St Michael on Thursday night, IAAF president Lord Sebastian Coe said he is ready to take up the baton following the latest request from National Sports Council’s new chairman, Mac Fingall.

“The president of the AAB, Catherine Jordan has for some time been concerned about the state of the National Stadium,” Coe said after unveiling the plaque with Jordan and former president, Esther Maynard to officially open the office.

“The importance for that, poses not just as a venue but also as an iconic inspirational force in athletics,” noted Coe, who visited the Stadium yesterday to get a first-hand look at the dilapidated facility. (EZS)
