The Women’s World Boxing Championships in Delhi was an eye-opener for top female Barbadian boxer Kimberly Gittens.

Gittens improved her ranking by six places for but for her it was more that the competitive exchanges.

“My experience was much bigger than boxing in the ring. It actually forced me to open my eyes and see from the eyes of the judges what they want which is very hard because there are five judges so all of them may not like the same thing,” she told THE NATION from India before heading home.

“I came out here last-minute, so I had come prepared to put in all work necessary. I had a preliminary bout against a very well-known country Uzbekistan and I honestly believed that I won the bout but the decision didn’t go my way. I lost by a split decision, so from there this world class experience solidifies for me that there are just a little more things to be worked on to bring in that win and to convince the judges because that  is what it seems like to me,” she said.
