THE BARBADOS WORKERS’ UNION (BWU) and the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA) have reached a three-year agreement to take the sector through to 2020.

The agreement, retroactive to last December 15, will see tourism employees getting a five-and-a-half per cent increase over the three-year period.

Word of this has come from the chief executive officer of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association, Rudy Grant, and BWU deputy general secretary and director of industrial relations Dwaine Paul.

Grant, who was a guest on Voice Of Barbados’ Brass Tacks Sunday call-in programme, revealed the BHTA and the BWU had signed off on the deal last Friday.

He called it “historic” as the negotiations were concluded in a relatively short time. (HLE)
