MILTON LYNCH’S plan to file for a court injunction against defending Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ cricket champions Bayley’s Primary has been hit for six.
The Christ Church school was prepared to take legal action after controversy arose during last week’s quarter-final match when it was discovered that Bayley’s were using the wrong size ball during the second innings.
A decision was made by the National Sports Council (NSC) to have the game replayed following a protest by Milton Lynch. However, yesterday the school was forced to forfeit the rescheduled game, as it will be unavailable to play on the new date. It was also told that a case to stop the match from being played was virtually impossible.
“We were not willing to replay the game for the simple fact that we were going by rule 50 a. which states schools not co-operating with the rules will be eliminated,” coach Shane Bentham told NATION SPORT.
“We were going based on that. They didn’t co-operate by using an illegal ball and by right they should have been disqualified from the tournament and that did not happen.”
During the match, the umpires had to change from playing with a five-and-a half-ounce ball, which is normally used at a senior level to the original four-and three-quarter ounce ball. This decision did not satisfy the Milton Lynch officials who ordered. (AGB)
