Barbados will punch above its weight again.

Those were the words of Prime Minister Mia Mottley as she presented her National Independence Day message at Kensington Oval moments ago.

Outfitted in a white dress and a blue, yellow and green shawl, Mottley told those gathered, the future is bright and Barbados will soon have more influence than its size suggests.

“We have come to Kensington Oval today on November 30, 2018, to say to the people of the world and to say to Barbadians that we too can punch above our weight again in this country,” she said.

Mottley said, “Our leaders before one after one felt that we can aspire and they represented the values that we want still to represent today that Barbados shall forever be friends of all and satellites of none. Barbados will join the clubs when we can afford to pay the dues.”

She closed by making reference to the words of the National Pledge we shall do credit to our nation in all that we do and say before leading the crowd in the popular song God Bless Bim. (GC)
