The United States made their presence felt at this year’s Phillips And Springer Classic by winning about half of the divisions during the third annual Barbados Independence Invitational Games.

Competing at Foundation’s school hall on Friday night, seven Americans took home their respective weight categories led by Jessica Saxon and Onzy Elam II.

Contesting the 59k division, Saxon topped out at 80 in the snatch before lifting 99 in the clean and jerk to come out ahead of compatriot Karine Tran and hometown girl Zagora Callender, of Hole-In-De-Wall gym.

Elam won a tough 89k category after lifting 128 in the snatch and 156 in the clean and jerk.

Yet, it was a Bajan who accounted for the most competitive division on the night as Hole-In-De-Wall’s Romario Forde downed seven other athletes in the men’s 81k category.

Forde topped out at 130 in the snatch and 150 in the clean and jerk to beat American Jacob Watt and gym mate Altmark Applewhaite. (JM)
