The show should go on! The possibility of the abandonment of this season’s National Sports Council awards isn’t sitting well with some of the national federations.
Three administrators believe Bajan athletes should always be recognised for their achievements.
Barbados Amateur Weightlifting Association president Andrew Callender, Barbados Federation of Island Triathletes head, Darren Treasure, and the Barbados Judo Association’s coaching and training director, Ian Weithers, expressed the view a day after unconfirmed reports stated that there may be no awards ceremony for the first time in 35 years.
“It’s embarrassing as a Bajan. Full stop. And not just as a sportsman but as a Bajan. If you do something of note you should be recognised for it,” said Callender, who also serves as weightlifting’s national head coach. (JM)
