Love for Smokey

Entertainer Smokey Burke was not left out yesterday as volunteers of the Love Day Project travelled across Barbados to spread Christmas cheer and deliver gifts.

This was the ninth year of the charity’s annual holiday giveaways and they visited areas such as Queen’s Park, Harmony Hall and Dalkeith, St Michael, where Burke lives.

Burke has been recovering from sepsis and a stroke, which forced him to forfeit his spot in the Courtesy Mount Gay Pic-O-De-Crop Finals last August.

Yesterday’s visit was organised by Ishiaka McNiel, who said he asked Terry Mexican Arthur to help him gather other entertainers to make the event as festive as possible.

“I came up around Smokey. We worked in the All Stars Calypso Tent, so I have a love for him. So we decided to show love as he goes through all of his battles. We are our brother’s keepers, not just on stage, even during his sickness,” McNiel said.

A grateful Burke, who was surprised by the number of people who showed up, thanked them for the visit. (TG)
