Construction on the 237-room, 15-storey controversial Hyatt Hotel at Bay Street, St Michael, is expected to begin next year. In July, one of the developers, Mark Maloney, said work on the hotel would begin this year but so far all remains quiet at the earmarked Bay Street location.
But a source has informed THE NATION the high-rise development, the centre of a lawsuit earlier this year, is back on track for construction in 2019.
When contacted for comment on the issue, Maloney declined and would only say “when the time is right he would speak on the matter”.
However, social activist, attorney David Comissiong believes it is “ridiculous that in this 21st century an Environmental Impact Assessment has not been done on a project of this magnitude”. (RD)
