BWA working on restoring service

Nine water tankers and a super tanker were deployed today as the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) battled outages across the distribution network.

Residents in parts of St Joseph and St Thomas were without water today because of low reservoir levels at the Castle Grant pumping station.

In a media release, BWA marketing officer Yvette Harris Griffith explained Castle Grant received water from the Apes Hill and Golden Ridge reservoirs “where the water levels are now too low to pump. BWA Engineers are working to adjust the feed into Golden Ridge by pumping some extra water from Sweet Vale.”

A power outage on Monday morning affected the Hampton pumping station, resulting in a loss of service for customers in parts of St Philip and Christ Church.

“While I am happy to report that all pumps at that facility are back online and water has started flowing back to the affected districts, there are still a few St Philip and Christ Church areas still suffering low pressure or a water outage. We ask for your patience as it will take some time for levels at the Rising Sun Reservoir that feed these areas to return to normal,” Harris-Griffith added.

This comes on the heels of a power outage late Friday night and early Saturday morning which affected four station along the West Coast to St Peter.

A pump was damaged at Aston Hall, St Peter and that has since been replaced.

On Friday, here was also a problem with the pump at the Ellerton pumping station in St George. It was changed and most of the customers were back online, but outages or low pressure is still affecting Blenman Road.

The BWA is getting assistance from partners in both the public and private sector. Seale’s Trucking has come on board to help distribute water and the Barbados Defence Force is providing crews to help sustain the distribution of water by tanker while the outages are ongoing. Other members of the BWA team are also in the field today distributing buckets to customers to assist in this regard.

Customers can contact the BWA at 434-4292 or email customercare@bwa.gov.bb. (PR/SAT)
