Major Courtnay McConney, a distinguished Barbadian public servant, has died.

The 90-year-old, who served as aide-de-camp to Governor Sir John Stow and Governor General Sir Winston Scott, passed away at his Dover, Christ Church home on Thursday surrounded by members of his family. He was also a former private secretary at Government House.

McConney’s long military career began with the Barbados Regiment, which recognised his service with the award of several medals. He also served in the Barbados Defence Force, going to Grenada during the Grenada intervention, for which he received a Grenada Service Medal. He was also a recipient of the Queen’s 25th Anniversary Jubilee Medal and the Barbados Government presented him with the Barbados Service Star.

McConney leaves to mourn Dathney, his wife of 59 years, and their daughters Averille McConney-Lovell and Dr Glenda Gay. (GC)
