The Transport Board’s ageing fleet of buses will be running alongside electric vehicles in the next two years.
The board has invited suitable companies to supply “120 to 180 electric buses within 12 to 18 months on the signing of the contract”.
Chairman Gregory Nicholls said this was all part of the move towards a green economy.
“We are following the policy set out by the Government of Barbados in terms of taking Barbados to a clean energy society by the year 2030 and obviously a large procurement such as a fleet of buses would be in the context of that policy. So we are going to move by way of electric buses on a phased basis,” he explained. (SAT)
